2nd FEB: MAYAN HAND SPINNING (LCB)
Saturday 2nd February: 10am – 3pm
With Daisy from Cotswold Craft Cottage.
Mayan hand spinning is a traditional spinning technique that originates from South America. It uses a different tool, and technique from its European equivalent the drop spindle, and is easier to learn.
You will have the use of a handmade Andean Spinner and a batt of hand dyed and blended fibre to work from.
You will learn the technique needed to spin the Mayan Hand Spinner. You will be shown the basic principles of spinning and the construction of the yarn and then put this into practice by first spinning singles and then plying them into a 2 ply yarn. You will take home a ball of hand spun yarn you have made yourself!
This is a basic hand spinning course and simple to pick up for all ages. No previous experience of spinning is necessary.
£50 including tools, materials and refreshments. Please bring your lunch.
Andean spinning tools and extra fibre will be available at extra cost.
