Click on the calendar for times and prices. All of our workshops are suitable for total beginners, keen crafters and are great fun!

BLOCK PRINTING

Discover the ancient art of wood block printing onto fabric and paper. The wooden block stamps are hand carved by skilled artisans in rural India who use the sustainable hard wood, Shesham wood, which is also known as Indian Rosewood. Using liquid paints you can experiment with colours and designs using this very simple method. We also have ink pads for use on paper and cards.
Workshops include sampler fabrics and unless otherwise states, one fabric item to print onto (e.g. Scarf, Tote bag, Tea Towel, etc) or you can print your own wrapping paper and cards. Other items available to purchase.

CROCHET

Do you have a love of yarn and colour? Then come and learn to crochet. Learn the best way to hold the yarn and hook, basic foundation stitches and finishing techniques. You will be crocheting stripes and granny squares in no time. We guarantee you’ll be hooked!

Places are limited to give everyone attention so we don’t leave anyone behind.

TUNISIAN CROCHET

Considered to be a mixture of crocheting and knitting, Tunisian (or Afghan) Crochet is a growing trend. The distinctive fabric created by this technique looks almost woven. The tension is looser than normal crochet and knitting and is substantially thicker than normal crochet making it ideal for blankets and cushions.

MOSAIC MAKING

Learn the techniques of mosaic making using tiles, glass, vintage china, old jewellery and curiosities. Make a decorative mirror or mosaic for your wall, we have plenty of samples, books and ideas to inspire you. Choose from a wide range of mosaic tiles, vintage china, glass pebbles, beads and quirky items to create a unique design.

LAMPSHADE MAKING

Create a drum lampshade or candle lanterns from our host of gorgeous fabrics or vintage maps. Add borders, fringing, bobbles or embellishments to match your decor. We supply the frames, tools and materials to make a 20cm lampshade or two candle lanterns. Upgrade to a 30cm round or oval shade for a nominal extra cost and buy kits to make a matching set at home.

TRADITIONAL HAND SEWN LAMPSHADES

Learn to create a traditional scalloped edge lampshade. From covering the frame to making the shade and adding trimmings. Some machine and hand sewing are required.

HAND-PAINTED LAMPSHADES

Use traditional block printing techniques to create your fabric design, then make it up into a drum lampshade. You can guarantee no-one will have a lampshade like it! The ‘no sew; drum lampshade is simple to make and we guide you step-by-step,

DECOUPAGE

Learn decoupage techniques using pretty papers, paper napkins, wrapping paper and more. Create pretty coasters on tiles, re-vamp a picture frame, tray or other small items. Then use your new found skills to upcycle furniture, lamp bases, household items and even shoes!

BEAD JEWELLERY

This workshop introduces you to the techniques of creating beautiful bead jewellery. Make an eye catching set for yourself or a gift. Create necklaces, bracelets, earrings, keyrings – if you have some favourite beads that need mending, re-stringing or re-working then bring them along.

NEEDLE FELTING

Learn the satisfying art of needle felting. Create a cushion cover, make bold brooches or a decorative piece. Applique style needle felting is great for embellishing clothing and soft furnishings. The soft and silky raw wool fibres are versatile and easy to work with. Incorporate cotton, wool and woven fabrics, add ribbons, trim, beads & buttons.

NEEDLE FELTED PORTRAITS, LANDSCAPES & TEDDIES

We offer a range of needle felting workshiops, led by local artist Cath Smith. Expect to achieve amazing results in just one workshop! Create a portrait of your pet or favourite animal, a landscape or even a mini-teddy. Using roving, fleece and natural fibres – no experience required. Check out the various dates and workshops on offer.

RAG RUGGING & WREATHS

Traditionally rag rugs were made of scraps of fabric from clothing that were beyond repair. Choose from our wide selection of gorgeous new and vintage fabrics to create your own retro chic rug, decorative wall hanging or wreath. Try both the hooking and prodding methods. The ultimate in creative fabric upcycling!

WILLOW WEAVING

Learn the techniques of Willow Weaving with expert Ruth Parsons. Workshops include plant supports, basket making and Christmas decorations. No experience necessary.

Some workshops take place at Quenington Village Hall and include a pub lunch.

EMBROIDERY

Hand embroidery is making a big comeback on the catwalk and in interior design. Learn a variety of embroidery stitches, use different threads and yarns to explore styles. Layer fabrics to achieve different effects and textures.Create a decorative piece ‘doodling’ with your stitches. An excellent introduction to hand embroidery.

FASCINATORS


Create your own beautiful, vintage-inspired fascinator in just a few hours! In this workshop, you will learn traditional millinery techniques to cover and trim a round button base, and to attach a concealed clip or comb. You will also learn how to make some easy fabric flowers to decorate your creation, and to add a little merry widow veiling for that vintage feel. By the end of the session, you will have a finished piece of your own design to take home and wear. No prior knowledge of millinery is needed, just a little hand sewing. WEDDING HENS & GROUPS

Looking for a fun day with your hens or for your group? Have fun learning a craft together, make wedding jewellery or have a go at crochet – tell us what you’d like to try! We also create hand-made items for weddings, from favour boxes to funky seating plans, kids’ craft packs and ‘wishing trees’. Get in touch to find out more.

APPLIQUED & EMBROIDERED LAMPSHADES

Picking up on the current fashion and interiors trend for applique and embroidery. A great project for using up fabric leftovers! Using applique techniques, hand and machine embroidery, unleash your creativity. Design a piece of fabric depicting a pretty pattern, landscape, garden, favourite building or your house! You will learn how to use fabric texture, colour and patterns to build up your design. The possibilities are endless and you will have a unique piece of art for your home.

This is a two in one workshop as you will also learn how to make a drum lampshade from your appliqued design.

VINTAGE PAPER WREATH

Make a stunning wreath – easy to do yet big on impact! Choose from sheet music and vintage books to create a unique Christmas decoration. Create a striking centre from pretty baubles or make your design an all-year-round piece. Use creamy vintage pages or colourful classic annuals; or why not make a decoration for your summer party or wedding?

CHRISTMAS WORKSHOPS

Use paper, music, fabric and old books to create a variety of original decorations. Including jewelled wreaths and trees, fabric baubles, book trees, lovely lanterns and more.

GIFT WRAPPING

This workshop will help give you ideas and techniques to wrap those easy and difficult shaped gifts. Using various paper, tissue, cellophane to create creative wraps, tie ribbons and create bows. Gifts can be personalised with embellishments for a professional and stylish look.

PLEASE NOTE Lechlade Craft Barn is an old building and only accessible via external stone steps, regrettably it is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. We regularly hold workshops at other venues, which are more accessible.
